Gladify Method life changer 4: Goal setting worksheet

Achieving your life goals increases your self-esteem, it makes you feel good. The process of pursuing your goals can help you develop into a better person.

The problem is that we often lack clear goals. Think of it as a ship with no final destination, floating around aimlessly in the Atlantic Ocean. But your brains were not made to wander adrift in life. Deep down you want to achieve things, you have dreams, big and small.

That’s why Goal setting is the fourth life changer in the Gladify method. In this module we help you setting clear goals, starting with an exercise today! Why?

Because clear goals provide the right motivation and confidence when you reach the goals. Self-confidence in turn contributes to the right mindset that is necessary to be successful.

Why create a goal setting worksheet

Top athletes, successful business people, professionals, they all set their own goals. You know that they didn’t get this far by ‘luck’.

Setting goals gives you a long-term vision and the right motivation for the short term. It gives you focus and therefore you can spend your time, money and energy efficiently. It allows you to get more out of life. Pursuing goals increases your quality of life.

By setting clearly defined goals, you know when you’ve reached them. It allows you to be proud of what you’ve achieved. You see progress in something that maybe at first seemed impossible to reach.

When you reach your goals, you’re experiencing success, which boosts your self-confidence. You see with your own eyes what you can achieve, what your skills are and that you can achieve what you want. The higher your self-confidence, the more ambitious the goals you dare to set for yourself.

If you can dream it, you can reach it.

Goal setting

What are your goals?

Goals are well-defined personal aims. A goal is something you want to achieve within a certain period of time. Goals are very powerful drivers of personal development. To achieve your goals you can use a goal setting worksheet.

What are YOUR goals? Make a goals setting worksheet.

You’ve already shown your first goal by becoming a member of Gladify. Apparently you want to develop yourself personally.

In the Gladify self improvement app we zoom in further on YOUR goals. How set goals and most important how you achieve your goals. To set them, it’s important that you take the time to think about them. This can be done with brainstorming, meditation and/or visualization.

Ask yourself what you want to achieve in certain areas of life. For example in your career, education, relationships, health or finance. And be aware of your emotions you’re experiencing while thinking about this. Which goals make you feel warm and happy? These are the goals that you really want to achieve, your burning desires.

So how do you set clear goals and how do you ensure that you achieve them? We’ll come back to this later, but a useful way to make goals more powerful is to make them SMART. Making your goals SMART means clarifying your ideas, focusing your efforts, and using your time and resources productively, increasing your chances of achieving what you want in life. You can use a our goal setting worksheet at the end of the blog.

SMART stands for:

  1. Specific (simple, meaningful, important)
  2. Measurable (meaningful, motivating)
  3. Achievable (reachable)
  4. Realistic (reasonable, relevant, result-oriented)
  5. Timely (time limit, deadline)

Achieving goals

Make a goal setting working for a successful life

Do you have an idea what you want your future to look like? Probably yes. Most likely you’d like to own a house, have no financial worries, a healthy and fit body or maybe run your own business.

To get there, let’s design a step-by-step plan. Take your time. Write down your life goals and think about how you can achieve them. Use the SMART principles to clarify your goals and make them more powerful (see goal setting worksheet). You can subdivide all these goals into smaller goals with shorter timelines. These smaller goals focus more specifically on the steps you need to take to reach your big goal.

Exercise

  1. Write down four goals for the coming twelve months
  2. Write down one big dream (longer term) goal, your ultimate dream.
